Bread Recipe
Ingredients:
- 6 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 envelopes active dry yeast
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 2 cups very warm water (120ºF -130ºF)
Instructions:
Mix 3 cups of flour with yeast, sugar, salt, and shortening in large bowl; add warm water. Beat on low speed for 1 minute; beat at medium for 1 minute. Mix remaining flour until dough is easily handled. Turn onto floured board and knead until elastic, about 10 minutes. Place in greased bowl; turn over once. Cover bowl and leave in warm place until dough doubles; about 45 minutes. Divide in half, knead 5-6 times. Rest for 5 minutes. Shape loaves, place on sheet, brush with butter, let rise 40 minutes. Bake at 425ºF for 25-30 minutes. Baste with butter the last 5 minutes.
Yield: 2 loaves
